University of North Dakota School of Graduate Studies’ 13th Annual Scholarly Forum is set for March 11-12 in the Memorial Union.

The annual conference showcases cutting edge research and creative scholarship from across the University’s graduate community.

Both graduate students and faculty will share their research in oral presentations, panels and posters. More than 190 submissions were received this year making this one of the largest in its 13-year history.

Interim dean, Dr. Wayne Swisher said, “It’s always such a pleasure to see the exceptional graduate research from around our campus as students and faculty come together in one location. With presentations from the Humanities, Sciences, Engineering and Education it is easy to appreciate the depth and breadth of our dynamic graduate community.”

The 2014 speaker is Dr. Susan Ellis-Felege, who will present her research, “Birds’ Eye View,” which uses nest cameras to understand avian ecology. Also her collaborative Wildlife@Home project that brings together UND biologists, computer scientists and the larger community to manage and analyze the vast digital data collections of video that enable the team to monitor nesting habits of North Dakota birds.

The School of Graduate Studies also is pleased to present the 2013 Distinguished Dissertation Award to Blake McCann, a Ph.D. graduate of UND’s Biology department now working at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. McCann will be presented with his award at noon, Wednesday, March 12, in the Lecture Bowl.

One of the largest events on the calendar, the research poster session will be held from 2 – 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, in the ballroom. It is a perfect opportunity to discover current research projects from each college. More than 90 posters will be on display.

All events are free and open to the public.
